The lack of products in the market and the high demand from agencies, hospitals and medical centers have sparked the idea to Dr. Tan Tse Guan, Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Creative Technology & Heritage (FTKW), Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) to create a face shield or Face Shield Visor (FSV) with his team.
The development and creation of FSV has been carried out in the FTKW laboratory and UMK library through two (2) techniques, namely 3D Printing Machine and 3D Laser Cutter (CNC) which can produce as many as 500 units per day.
This FSV can be used repeatedly by simply sanitizing the FSV using a hand sanitizer.
In addition, UMK also developed a Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Suit. Led by Dr. Hanisa binti Hassan, Dean of FTKW together with her group have designed PPE Suit which includes hijab, coverall and socks. This product is developed using a special fabric supplied by the Malaysian Crescent Society (PBSM).
To increase the production quantity of this PPE Suit due to the high demand, UMK has collaborated with Pengkalan Chepa Prison and Machang Prison and successfully produced 100 units a day.
Apart from that, UMK also produced an Intubation Box led by Mr. Muhammad Najibul Muthiie bin Che Ya’acob, UMK Designer and Dr. Tan Tse Guan, FTKW Senior Lecturer. The design of this Intubation Box is based on the requests and specifications given by the hospital physicians.
The development of this product aims to prevent frontline personnel from being splashed by patients’ fluids while handling Covid-19 cases in hospitals. A total of 10 units of Intubation Box can be produced in a day.
The UMK Care Covid-19 Kit which includes the FSV, PPE Suit and Intubation Box produced has been distributed free of charge to hospitals, health centers and enforcement agencies in the States of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
UMK received a grant for this innovation project under the High Impact Program 6 (HIP 6) under the auspices of Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM).
