Event: Malaysia Commercialization Year (MCY) during Global Entrepreneurship Community (GECommunity) Summit 2017

KUALA LUMPUR, 13TH December, 2017 – Malaysia Commercialisation Year (MCY) were held successfully in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre from 12th until 13th December 2017, in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Community (GECommunity) Summit 2017.
MCY is a platform to raise awareness of stakeholders as well as the public on the importance and potential of innovation and commercialization in raising the nation’s revenue. Aligned with the theme of the event, “Designing the Future”, GECommunity Summit 2017 aims to build global communities to drive future growth of entrepreneurship.

In line with MCY program efforts, Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) took the initiative to participate in this prestigious event by doing an exhibition on potential programs and products that are developed by YIM. The crowd was outstanding and YIM received more than 600 visitors from both local and international audience. Most of the audience are industry players, corporate players, ecosystem influencers, policy makers and entrepreneurs.

Inspire:           Start-ups’ showcase area and where all keynote & panel sessions take place.

Educate:        Providers of programs & organizations for mentorship/incubation and entrepreneurship knowledge.

Fund:             Fund providers for entrepreneurs from various background of organisations and individuals.

Connect:       The local and global community ecosystem and organisations that plays a vital role as conduits in building the entrepreneurship ecosystem.

Accelerate:    Showcasing innovative products and services that are ready for commercialization.

These are 5 Pillars that forms the fundamental principles in building a global ecosystem. Each pillar supports the entrepreneur in reaching their ultimate goal during the GEC Summit Exhibition.

Throughout the exhibition, Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia engaged under Connect Pillar – Government Pavilion, providing information on YIM’s corporate services and various success stories from YIM’s Grassroots Innovators (GRIr). Main purpose of joining this program is to disseminate the information on the latest program under YIM which are Mainstreaming Grassroots Innovations (MaGRIs), a project under the 11th Malaysian Plan, as well as High Impact Programme 6 (HIP6) a project under SME’s Masterplan.

In order to make better understanding about YIM’s past events and current initiatives to the audience, Mohd Feroz, innovator of Battery Pack C13 and Robest Yong, innovator of Efinity Water Filter are fully engaged during the showcase. Most local and also international entrepreneurs are interested in both grassroots innovation products that are ready to enter the market.


As an initiative to increase YIM’s social media followers, #yim100ringgitchallenge, a selfie contest to gain as many ‘Likes’ within the time given was successfully conducted. Overall, the event was a success and new opportunities are about to come!
